The Guide

One Hour, One River, the Bar Open

Several boats sell a prosecco cruise in Budapest. They pour different drinks, leave from different docks and suit different groups. Here is how they compare.

The Budapest prosecco cruise is a 75-minute sightseeing loop on the Danube past Parliament, Buda Castle and the bridges, with the bar open the whole way. On Duna-Weser’s Unlimited Prosecco, Beer, Aperol & Limoncello Spritz Cruise that means unlimited Hungarian sparkling wine, four self-service spritzers, beer and lemonade, with a recorded English commentary between the music. On GetYourGuide it is from US$28 a person, rated 4.8 from 50,831 reviews (checked October 2026), with free cancellation up to 24 hours before. The calendar is on this page.

What the cruise includes

The drinks on the Duna-Weser cruise are worth reading closely:

  • Sparkling wine. A welcome glass as you board, then unlimited refills at the bar. It is described as Hungarian sparkling wine: a classic dry one always, with a rosé or semi-sweet when available.
  • Four spritzers, self-service. Aperol, Hugo (elderflower), Rossini (strawberry) and limoncello, the last made without sparkling wine. They are easy-drinking spritzer versions, not strong cocktails.
  • Beer, lemonade and water. Beer from the bar, and homemade lemonade, lemon-mint water and still water for anyone not drinking.
  • The sights and a commentary. Parliament, Margaret Island, Buda Castle, Gellért Hill and the bridges, with timed recorded commentary in English between the music. Open-air areas and an indoor lounge, which vary by boat.

Not included: premium spirits, mixed cocktails and food, which are sold at a cashless bar. Outside food and drink are not allowed, except a birthday cake. What each boat pours sets this cruise beside the other unlimited boats, including the ones that pour Italian prosecco.

Where it leaves from

The Duna-Weser cruise sails from more than one dock on the Pest bank, depending on the departure you pick. Resellers of the same cruise list three: Carl Lutz rakpart Dock 0 near Margaret Bridge, Akadémia 3 by the Chain Bridge, and Vigadó 8/A on Jane Haining rakpart. Your voucher names yours. Tram 2 runs along the Pest embankment past all three areas, with stops at Jászai Mari tér, Kossuth Lajos tér, Széchenyi István tér, Eötvös tér and Vigadó tér.

Boarding opens 15 minutes before departure and late arrivals cannot be taken. Seats are first come, first served, and a group has to board together. In late October 2026 one reviewer queued 40 minutes early and still found a line, and another, arriving 30 minutes before, was among the last to get a seat on the open top deck. Where the cruises board has every prosecco boat’s dock on one map.

Day, sunset or after dark

The listing offers daylight, sunset and evening departures, and the calendar shows the times for your date. Reviewers in late October 2026 mention sailings at 17:00, 18:45, 20:30 and 23:00. From November to mid-January, Budapest’s sunset falls between about 15:50 and 16:30, so the late-afternoon sailings meet the dusk and the evening ones are night cruises with the buildings lit. One October 2026 reviewer recommends the 17:00 sailing in winter for both: the last of the sunset, then the lights coming on. In June the sun sets around 20:40, so in summer the evening sailings are the sunset ones.

One reviewer on a 23:00 sailing in October 2026 found most of the riverside lights going off as the boat set out. For the lit Parliament and Castle, pick an earlier evening sailing. Day, sunset or evening has the month-by-month sunset times and the evening-only cruise from Margaret Bridge.

Rain, cold, low water and the lights

  • Rain. The cruise normally runs in rain. The indoor lounge stays open; open-air areas may be restricted.
  • Cold. The top deck is chilly from October: reviewers in late October 2026 advise wrapping up.
  • Low water. In summer 2026 the Danube at Budapest fell to record lows, and in August a Sip & Sail reviewer had a sailing cancelled for low water and found the boarding point moved the next day. Check your messages on the day of the cruise.
  • Passport or ID. Bring a passport or ID card for every guest; a copy is accepted.
  • The lights. The decorative lighting went off at the turn of July and August 2026, during the heatwave and the low-water outage at the Paks nuclear plant: the city’s roughly 300 lit buildings on the mayor’s order, Parliament by the Speaker’s office, and Buda Castle and the Citadella by the Castle Administration. We found no official notice of the lights going back on. Mahart’s night-cruise listing says the Parliament and Castle lights were back from 8 August, and reviews from September and October 2026 describe Parliament and the bridges lit. Landmark lighting is set by city and national energy policy and cannot be guaranteed on any date.

Who it suits

Book it for: a sociable hour on the river with friends, a couple’s evening, a birthday, or a group of mixed ages where some will drink lemonade. Under-18s can come with an adult; children up to three travel free with an infant ticket.

Look elsewhere if: you want to dance, which is the Danube Beat boat party; you want a live guide; or you want dinner on board. The dinner boats run two to two and a half hours. Duna-Weser’s own Dinner Cruise with Live Music & Unlimited Drinks from Akadémia 3 adds a buffet and spirits, from US$111 a person (checked October 2026). For the wider choice between a drinks hour, a sightseeing hour and a dinner cruise, rivercruisebudapest.com sets the prosecco cruise against Budapest’s other river cruises, with prices for each kind.
